Uswnt vs costa rica - Friendly

Official – Koroleva put in a good shift, got the calls correct, though there was that possible DOGSO red card in the 28th minute. Hard to tell from that angle so will give her the benefit of the doubt. Otherwise well done, should earn more demanding matches going forward.

Kberg – mixed game for the starting left back. Great assist on the first goal. Costa rica may allow that much time on the ball but will need to offer a more direct scoring threat to earn that space against a France or Germany.

Solo – not much to do in her first half, read the game well, distribution was good

Maehler – brave in the early second half going down for the ball at the edge of the area

Lloyd – well-taken header for a goal at the beginning of the second half, but distracted by the hacking on her that was not called. Finishing should improve if she wants to recreate her world cup form. Pissing contest in the 81st minute with dead ball location at mid field was pointless and showed her lack of focus.

Dunn – clinical in front of goal in the first half , in the second half provided excellent service. Appeared injured around the 85th minute, before going down in the 91st and sitting out extra time.

Kreiger – should have done better in the 47th on that opportunity in the box. Good play, though the slow pace of play didn’t demand much (OK, 106F on the field made me tired just watching them run around)

Pugh – excellent shift in the first half on the left side. Taking corners was adequate but not to the level of Rapinoe, couldn’t put the ball on Johnston’s head, on the multiple opportunities on corners. Smart play throughout the match leads me to believe her soccer brain has more upside.

Morgan – didn’t make the most of her opportunities. Wasn’t a bad display but not up to her usual standard.

Johnston – played well enough, though not great on the ball in tight spaces. We expect less from centerbacks as ball handlers, but our women are the worlds best so maybe we should demand more. As the primary target on set pieces, didn’t get a touch though not her fault since that service was poor.

Press – quite for 30 minutes, then good movement off the ball and goal in the 80th.

Brian – quiet 45 minutes. Brian/Heath combo works well, but definitely second best to the players they replaced in the first half.

Ohara – corner in the second half straight to the keeper, otherwise solid game

"As the primary target on set pieces, didn’t get a touch though not her fault since that service was poor." Actually couldn't be further from the truth. She was NOT the primary target. She was, and has been for the pass few games, a dummy run for the player(s) behind her. Actually has worked very well and has provided a number of good opportunities
