A new MLS rule intended to keep players from skipping out on the All-Star Game means that Portland Timbers captain Liam Ridgewell
will have to sit out Sunday's key Western Conference game
against Sporting Kansas City.
After several stars did not travel to Colorado for the 2015 AT&T All-Star Game, MLS ruled that players selected for the game who do not come must sit out
his next game.
Ridgewell, the Timbers captain, sustained a calf strain and missed Saturday's game against the LA Galaxy as he recovered from the injury. He was not ready to come back for
the All-Star Game so -- despite the Timbers' protests -- he must sit out on Sunday.
The other All-Star selection who did not travel to San Jose was Sporting KC defender Matt Besler
(left MCL strain).
