NASL Rewind: Freddy Adu makes an appearance

Freddy Adumade his third NASL appearance of 2016, coming on for the final 16 minutes of the Tampa Bay Rowdies’ 2-0 loss at Ottawa. The New York Cosmos’ 3-0 win over Puerto Rico extended their home win streak to a league record 10 games and moved them back into first place.

The 27-year-old Adu, who joined the Rowdies in 2015 and made eight appearances that year, had 16 touches against Ottawa, completed all 11 of his passes, and set up Joe Cole for an 84th minute shot that was deflected out for a corner kick.

Adu’s previous appearances in the Fall Season were 19 minutes July 9 in a 4-1 loss to Carolina and two minutes in a 3-0 July 16 win over Puerto Rico.

New York Cosmos forward Lucky Mkosana earned Player of the Week honors after helping with all three goals in the win over Puerto Rico. He hit a cross that turned into a Cristiano Dias own goal, assisted on Juan Arango’s header, and scored the third.

Minnesota’s Christian Ramirez scored is league-leading 12th goal in a 2-2 tie with Rayo OKC after a sequence of 29 passes.
