Bayern names Julian Green to first team

The 21-year-old Germany-raised U.S. national team player Julian Green  has been named to Bayern Munich’s 25-man first-team roster for the 2016-17 season.

After spending last season with Bayern Munich II in the German fourth division, Green scored Bayern’s first preseason goal under new coach Carlo Ancelotti and on Bayern’s U.S. tour scored a hat trick in a 4-1 win over Inter Milan in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Green joined Bayern at age 15 and was considered a rising star in 2014 when at age 18 U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann succeeded in convincing Green to play for the USA. But Green has yet to play a Bundesliga game for Bayern Munich, although while on loan to Hamburg SV in 2014-15 he saw 113 minutes of Bundesliga action five appearances as a sub.

Germany's summer transfer window is open until midnight of Aug. 31.
