MLS Moves: Whitecaps loan out Flores to previous club

To speed the development of midfielder Debyi Flores, who came to Vancouver 18 months ago from Honduran club CD Motagua, the ‘Caps have sent him back there on loan.

The loan runs through December, at which point the clubs will discuss whether he stays in Honduras, comes back to Canada, or moves to another team.

Flores, 20, has appeared only once for the first team this season, in a March game against Sporting Kansas City. 'He played the first half. He’s played eight USL games (six starts) for Whitecaps FC 2. Last year he played 15 first-team games (11 starts) in all competitions.

“Deybi is a bright young talent,” said head coach Carl Robinson in a team press release. “He has a lot of potential, but he needs to be playing games. When the opportunity for Deybi became available to return to Motagua on loan, all parties believed that this was the best arrangement for his development.”

Flores played 21 games in two seasons for Motagua prior to signing with the Whitecaps in February, 2015. He earned his first cap for Honduras last December in a 2-0 defeat of Cuba. He has also represented his country at the U-17, U-20, and U-23 levels.
