Toronto FC missed a chance to take the lead in MLS's Eastern Conference when it had to settle for a 1-1 tie with Houston, last in the Western Conference, despite playing the second half with a man
advantage. Starting his first game in three months, Jozy Altidore scored the equalizer for TFC after Cristian Maidana had put the Dynamo ahead in the game rescheduled from Saturday
because of persistent lightning.
For the second time in four games, New York City coach Patrick Vieira got tossed, being ejected by referee Sorin Stoica at the end of
NYCFC's 3-3 tie with Columbus Crew that left NYCFC a point ahead of Toronto and two points ahead of the New York Red Bulls.
NYCFC and the Crew exchanged four goals in the last 10 minutes
and first David Villa for NYCFC and then Ethan Finlay for the Crew scored in stoppage time. Afterwards, Vieira calmed down and praised the play of both teams.
"It was the
type of game that everybody enjoyed and I really enjoyed it on the field because it was difficult for both teams," the Frenchman said. "I think both teams, at times, played well. It was drama, if you
call it like that. I hope the fan enjoyed it because it was a really good game of football with goals, with teams leading and the other teams coming back, change of tactics and it was of tension. I
think that is the type of games that the MLS needs."
-- Bradley
Wright-Phillips scored two goals to lead the New York Red Bull past the Montreal Impact, 3-1, become their all-time leading goal scorer in MLS play (59 goals), breaking Juan Pablo Angel's
record of 58 goals.
