U.S. Open Cup: Record 64 amateur teams entered for '17

When the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup final is held in September, qualifying for the 2017 Open Cup will have already begun. A record 64 amateur teams representing 18 states and 23 leagues will take part in the first and second qualifying rounds of the Open Division.

Rounding out the Open Division are the PDL and NPSL, which will bypass local qualifying and will instead use 2016 league results to determine their entrants into the 2017 Open Cup.

    Wait a minute 64 teams is a record since the open cup started? I don't think so a lot more then that entered. Maybe since the MLS started.
