What They're Saying: Robert Bauer

"No offense was meant. I am thankful that I was able to be part of it here, and experience the country. It was the first I've been to Brazil."

-- German defender Robert Bauer apologizing for making a gesture -- "a stupid action" -- showing seven fingers to the Maracana crowd, in reference to his nation's 7-1 victory over Brazil at the 2014 World Cup, after his team lost to Brazil in a shootout in the Olympic gold-medal game. (ESPN FC)

Oh, please...of course he was being offensive with his gesture!!! Just like a little kid saying,"Yeah, but we beat you last time by 7-1, so this doesn't really count."
A very poor loser who can't control himself and then tried to downplay his behavior. Saying that he didn't mean to offend anyone is NOT an apology, but is offered up as an excuse for ignorance. I guess it takes a man to own up to his mistakes...Bauer is not that man.
