College Men: Otte does it all in Saint Louis upset

Sascha Otte recorded a career-high 11 saves as Saint Louis shut out No. 7 Wake Forest in the season opener, 1-0, for both teams in Winston-Salem. Otte, who recorded his 20th career shutout, also assisted on sophomore Anthony Brown’s goal in the 14th minute.

Brown pounced on a bouncing ball from Otte near the top of box and rifled a shot that sneaked just underneath the crossbar for the only goal of the game.

SLU almost had a second goal but Lennart Hein’s penalty kick was stopped by Andreu Cases Mundet.

Wake finished the game with 28 shots but hit the woodwork twice. The Demon Deacons ' best chance came with nine minutes to play when Hayden Partain headed a shot off the post and Otte stopped Steve Echevarria's rebound attempt.

“I am very proud of my team and the character they showed,” SLU head coach Mike McGinty, a former Wake goalkeeper, said. “Everyone stayed together and worked their socks off. I couldn’t be more proud.”
