Former Mexico national team coach Ricardo La Volpe is the new head coach of Club America, replacing Ignacio Ambriz, who was fired after America's 2-0 loss to Leon on Sunday.

The 64-year-old La Volpe is back for his second stint at the Mexico City club. He has coached at eight clubs in Mexico and three in his native Argentina in addition to Mexico and Costa Rica. In all, he's had 19 stops in a 34-year coaching career.

"It's flattering," said La Volpe in an interview with ESPN Digital. "It is something that is very important for me in my career. Being handed a team like America is a great opportunity."

In addition to domestic play, America will play in the 2016 Club World Cup.
