Obituary: Indiana youth soccer leader Larry Harmon

Larry Harmon, who was involved in youth soccer for more than 20 years at the Indiana and national level, died on Friday night. He was president of the Indiana Youth Soccer Association for eight years (1993-2000) and a member of U.S. Soccer's Board of Directors as a youth representative from 2000-2006. U.S. Youth Soccer's under-16 boys national championship was renamed the Larry Harmon Cup.

Harmon got involved in soccer in 1985 when he started coaching recreational soccer. He coached rec soccer for eight years and at the more competitive level for five additional years.  He was influential in the development of the 21-field Lawrence Soccer Park and in bringing three major national events to Indiana. He also worked on getting the Indiana Soccer office built on the Lawrence Soccer facility.

“Larry Harmon established a course for the organization nearly 20 years ago that continues to benefit the Indiana Soccer family,"
Indiana Soccer executive director Dave Guthrie said. "Larry’s insight and council will be greatly missed.  The Indiana Soccer Family will remember, and be eternally grateful for the significant contributions of Larry Harmon.”
