Scotland's hopes of reaching the World Cup for the first time since 1998 took another blow after Coach Gordon Strachan
's team fell, 3-0, at Slovakia three days after tying Lithuania,
1-1, in Glasgow. “At this moment the people I feel sorry for are the players, they put so much work in the last couple of games,” said Strachan, who refused discuss his future at the helm.
“They are the ones I feel sorry for, they are the ones I am wondering how do I protect them. How do we send them back to clubs feeling good about themselves? They can’t go back thinking
they could do any more. I am proud of them as a group.
“The second group I feel for is the supporters who have come here tonight. You feel for them. That is what we are thinking about
right now. I am not sitting here thinking about myself."
