CCL: FC Dallas rallies to clinch group title

Needing at least a tie to advance, FC Dallas rallied from 2-0 down after 22 minutes to beat Suchitepequez, 5-2, in Guatemala City and advance to the quarterfinals of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League.

Goals by Carlos Gruezo and Matt Hedges on headers pulled FC Dallas even by the 35th minute and three goals after the break sealed the win.

FC Dallas is juggling two campaigns -- it will clinch the MLS Supporters' Shield with at least a draw against the LA Galaxy on Sunday -- and started just four players from Sunday's 2-1 win over Seattle that put it in first place in the MLS standings.

FC Dallas coach Oscar Pareja even dressed 16-year-old Paxton Pomykal, who just signed with the club.

Scoring 5 unanswered goals anywhere in Central America is an enormous achievement. Despite losing their best player to a terrible injury last weekend.....while juggling multiple competitions no less. Something no MLS sides has ever figured out how to do BTW. I don't like FCD, but this result is a superb achievement and should be recognized and celebrated for the growth of the league. I suspect that there is a direct connection between this run of form in multiple tournaments and their Academy. Something all of us fans of other MLS teams should be paying close attention to. If it was an MLS team in a market that mattered we and the media would acknowledge this outstanding result and give it the attention it deserves. Alas it is Texas and therefore will be generally ignored.
