MLS Decision Day: What's at stake

The 2016 Supporters' Shield and the final two playoff berths are on the line on Sunday when MLS wraps up its regular season with all 10 games kicking off at 4 p.m. ET.

Western Conference: A win or loss at the LA Galaxy will give FC Dallas its first MLS Supporters' Shield in 21 years. It will also clinch first overall if Colorado doesn't beat Houston at home. The Rapids need to beat the Dynamo and hope FC Dallas loses in order to claim the first Supporters' Shield of their own.

Something will be at stake in all three other Western Conference matches as four teams -- Real Salt Lake, Seattle, Sporting Kansas City and Portland -- are fighting for three playoff spots.

Here's the situation: Each of the four teams will clinch if it wins. Real Salt Lake will clinch if it ties. Each of the four teams could be out with a defeat though only Portland will surely be eliminated if it loses.

Eastern Conference: The New York Red Bulls have all but assured themselves of the Eastern Conference title. They lead New York City FC by three points and have a 13-goal edge in goal difference so even if they lose to Philadelphia and NYCFC beats Columbus, they should hold on for their third Eastern Conference regular-season crown in four years.

NYCFC will need a win, though, to be assured of a first-round bye in the playoffs. A tie or loss will allow Toronto FC to move into second place if it beats Chicago at home.

Philadelphia has all but clinched the final playoff berth. New England expects 40,000 fans for its game against Montreal but a 12-goal deficit will be all but possible to overcome even if it wins and the Union loses.
