U.S. Abroad: Big night for Americans in DFB Pokal

Bobby Wood scored two goals for Hamburg, his first since the second week of the Bundesliga season, and Fabian Johnson and Andrew Wootenboth scored in winning efforts in the Germany's DFB Pokal.

Hamburg beat minor-league Hallescher FC, 4-0, to break out of a long scoring drought. HSV came into the game with one goal in the last two months.

Teenager Cameron Carter-Vickers started for Tottenham in its 2-1 loss to Liverpool before more than 50,000 fans in the English League Cup, while fellow U.S. U-20 Gedion Zelalem came on late in Arsenal's 2-0 win over Reading.

Carter-Vickers was one of 10 changes in the Spurs lineup from the team that tied Bournemouth, 0-0, in the EPL last weekend. Zelalem came on in the 80th minute for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who scored both Gunner goals.

Julian Green is expected to make his first start for Bayern Munich when it host Augsburg in the German Cup on Wednesday.
