Sporting Kansas City exercised contract options on five players — Saad Abdul-Salaam, Benji Joya, Jimmy Medranda, Lawrence Olum and Seth Sinovic — who join12 players already under contract for 2017. Six players are out of contract, including three who played in Sporting KC’s loss to Seattle in the Knockout Round: Kevin Ellis, PauloNagamura and Jacob Peterson.
 
It will extend offers to backup keeper Alec Kann and Ellis. Chance Myers, Peterson and Nagamura are eligible for MLSfree agency, which begins at the conclusion of the MLS Expansion Draft on Dec. 13. Portuguese defender Nuno Andre Coelho, who started 20 games, also is out of contract.
 
EverAlvarado, Emmanuel Appiah, Connor Hallisey, Jon Kempin and Justin Mapp did not have their options exercised. Kempin is eligible for the Re-Entry Draft with Stage Oneset for Dec. 16 and Stage Two on Dec. 22. Mapp, a 2016 MLS free-agent signing, may enter the Re-Entry Draft or begin free agent negotiations with MLS clubs again after the Expansion Draft.
 
Players already under contract for 2017: Matt Besler, Dom Dwyer, Roger Espinoza, Benny Feilhaber, Tim Melia, Soni Mustivar, Ike Opara,Erik Palmer-Brown, Cameron Porter, Diego Rubio, Daniel Salloi and Graham Zusi.
