Unbeaten Paradise Valley won its third NJCAA Division I women's championship when it beat Tyler, 3-1 in the final.
Jacey Duncan scored off a corner kick in the third minute, and
Janessa
Dunbar (penalty kick) and
Jamie Iurato added second-half goals for the Pumas, who finished with a 25-0-1 record.
Arielle Perez recorded six saves for Paradise Valley and
earned Defensive MVP honors, while freshman teammate
Karina Lopez-Martinez was named Offensive MVP after tallying three goals and an assist during the tournament.
The top-seeded
Pumas began their run with victories over No. 12-seed Moraine Valley (Ill.) and No. 8-seed Parkland (Ill.), advancing to the semifinals out of Pool A.
Tyler (22-3-1) narrowed the deficit
to 2-1 with a goal by
O’Shay Nelson in the 79th minute.
