U.S. Abroad: U.S. U-19 Montalvo signs with Tigres

U.S. U-19 defender Hector Montalvo became the latest player from the FC Dallas academy program to turn pro when he signed with Mexico's Tigres after his freshman year at Grand Canyon University.

Montalvo is the fifth player from FC Dallas academy to turn pro in the last six months after Weston McKennie, who signed with Germany's Schalke 04, and FC Dallas Homegrown signings Paxton Pomykal, Jesus Ferreira and Bryan Reynolds.

SBI Soccer's Ives Galarcep reported that UCLA defender Reggie Cannon, another U.S. U-19, will return to FC Dallas to sign a Homegrown contract.

Montalvo, one of the top defenders in the WAC as a freshman, is the second former FC Dallas academy player to join Tigres. Goalkeeper Ricardo Sanchez was sold by FC Dallas to Tigres in 2014 but has yet to play for Tigres in Liga MX.
