Carlos Tevez has joined Shanghai Shenhua from his boyhood Argentine club Boca Juniors, the Chinese Super League confirmed on Thursday. Reports of the transfer fee and salary vary widely.

Some media reports suggested that Shanghai Shenhua paid $87.65 million forTevez and will play the Argentina $40 million. Others put thetransfer fee at $11 million and Tevez’s salary at $40 million over two seasons.

Either way, it is a lot of money and an attention-catching deal that underscores the ability of ChineseSuper League clubs to attract South American stars. Tevez’s signing follows that of Brazilian Oscar to Shenhua rival Shanghai SIPG. Already in China are Brazilians Hulk, Ramiresand Paulinho, Colombian Jackson Martinez and Argentine Ezequiel Lavezzi.
