MLS: Marsch is staying at the Red Bulls

Jesse Marsch isn't going anywhere. MLS's Red Bulls issued a statement on Thursday that their head coach would remain with the team. It followed reports that sister club Red Bull Salzburg was negotiating with Marsch for their head coaching job and he would take the job.

"Jesse Marsch will be traveling to Los Angeles today to join the staff and prepare for MLS SuperDraft," the statement read. "Jesse will remain at the helm in 2017 to lead the charge towards the ultimate goal of bringing MLS Cup to Red Bull Arena."

Marsch's hiring in place of Mike Petke was unpopular among many Red Bull fans as the New York reached the final of the Eastern Conference in 2014. But Marsch led the Red Bulls to the Supporters' Shield in 2015 and first place again in the Eastern Conference during the 2016 regular season.

Red Bull Salzburg coach Oscar Garcia was a candidate for the Malaga job in his native Spain and is believed to have other offers. Red Bull Salzburg is the three-time defending Austrian league champion and second in the Bundesliga at the winter break.
