Copa Centroamericana: Ortiz scored twice in Tico debut

Recent D.C. United signing Jose Guillermo Ortiz scored two goals in his international debut to lead Costa Rica to a 3-0 win over Belize on Sunday at the Copa Centroamericana. Minnesota United acquisition Johan Venegas scored the third goal. The only other MLS player to start for the Ticos was Portland signing David Guzman.

Rubilio Castillo scored both goals as Honduras, the USA's next opponent in the Hexagonal, beat El Salvador, 2-1, to move into first place after two rounds with six points.

San Jose Earthquakes center back Harold Cummings started for host Panama in its 2-1 win over Nicaragua. Costa Rica and Panama are tied for second place behind Honduras with four points.

The top four teams in the tournament will advance to the Gold Cup and the fifth-place team will face Haiti in a playoff for the 12th and final berth in the tournament.
