Wow! 1-0 is a fair score, though we hope that the supporters of La Selecta (ES) don't start a "Uno a cero!" chant when CR goes to play them in ES. All we saw yesterday's play is the young ES players get fouled and fouled and fouled, whether some were in the flow of play, on purpose, or were just plain dives. And again the announcers made note of the number of times the ES players were see writhing and squirming, only to have the two trainers rush out with their kits and the probervial cooler with the "agua bendita" ("holy water") and then miraculously they recovered and began running full bore. There was one instance toward the end of play, when a ES player lay sprawled just outside the CR PA, and played continued for what seemed 3-4 minutes before the ball was finally kicked out of bounds, and know what trainers went out and the player resumed. While La Selecta did score a fine goal, the rest of play was/is certainly unworthy of watching!

The match was a setback for the US. Generally speaking they were tactically slow with only occasional short segments of good combination play. The setback is that the US was rewarded in the result for slow play. The players looked quite happy with themselves. The coaching staff is going to its hands full preparing for the next match. I have low standards, but am going to sound like Frank: I found this match painful to watch.

Bob, get the book "Ajax, Barcelona, Cruyff" at Amazon.
I highly recommend it!!! The guys who wrote it are dutch and are good friends of Cruyff. I have other books by them.

Watched some of the Honduras/CR match. Honduras won playing brutal kickball, facilitated by the (unfortunately consistently) terrible CONCACAF officiating. Real FIFA refs would have sent off half that team for various and sundry infractions, tackles, jawboning and unsporting behavior. Costa Rica played well and deserved a result but came up short.

Mexico has 3 points, not 6.
