CCL: FC Dallas rewarded with record-breaking win

FC Dallas' intensive training camp in Buenos Aires -- nine games over 10 days -- paid immediate dividends as it crushed Panama's Arabe Unido, 4-0, in the first leg of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals. It was the largest margin by which an MLS club has ever triumphed in the CCL knockout phase.

FC Dallas started the season without playmaker Mauro Diaz, who is still recovering from the injury he suffered in the 2016 MLS playoffs, but it looked comfortable in a 4-4-2 formation that featured new Paraguayan DP Cristian Colman up front with Maximiliano Urruti, Ivorian-Belgian Roland Lamah as one of the wingers and Argentine Hernan Grana at right back.

Colman and Lamah gave the FCD attack some punch it was lacking after Fabian Castillo was sold in August and Diaz was injure in October.

The player of the game, though, was young American Kellyn Acosta with two goals. Colman grabbed the first goal on the half-hour mark and Michael Barrios completed a dominating second half by FC Dallas with the fourth goal in stoppage time.
