CCL: FC Dallas moves into semifinals for first time

FC Dallas moved into the semifinals of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League for the first time when it beat Panama's Arabe Unido, 5-2, on aggregate.

FC Dallas, which will face Pachuca in the semifinals, lost in Panama City, 2-1, after taking a 4-0 lead in the first leg and leading the second leg on a 23rd-minute own goal.

The own goal gave FC Dallas a six-goal cushion that Arabe Unido could never overcome. But it rallied to win on goals -- both on headers -- in the 90th and 92nd minutes by Roberto Chen and Leslie Heraldez.

With the series all up wrapped up and the MLS opener scheduled for Saturday at the LA Galaxy, FC Dallas coach Oscar Pareja rested three starters from the first leg and took off three others in the second half. He gave Paxton Pomykal his pro debut when the 17-year-old midfielder came on for Kellyn Acosta in the 64th minute.

FC Dallas will host Pachuca (featuring Dallas product Omar Gonzalez) on March 14 or 15. The date will be confirmed on Friday. The second leg in Mexico will be played April 4-6.

Two MLS teams will play in the semifinals for only the second time. (Vancouver Whitecaps and New York Red Bulls play on Thursday.) Both the Seattle Sounders and Galaxy lost in the 2013 semifinals.

After playing at the Galaxy on Saturday, FC Dallas will travel to Sporting KC on March 11.
