What They're Saying: Landon Donovan

“I am surprised. What surprises me is we don’t seem -- in the last five or six years -- to have progressed a lot. That’s concerning. In the past, you could blame a lack of resources or that not enough people cared. Now we have everything we need. We should be further along.”

"We don’t seem -- in the last five or six years -- to have progressed a lot" Landon Donovan. This is an understatement, at least he, like myself, sees the problems,as clear as daylight, of development in american soccer players. You have to be hurting to bring back players (probably with walkers) that 12 years ago played under Arena. It only concisely points out the lack of decent players developed that are good enough to fill the ranks of the men's national team. Donovan stated that PLAYER DEVELOPMENT remained SUSPECT, DUH!!, NO KIDDING. This has been mine criticism all along as I have often stated. Talk about development academies, more various coaching licenses, you name it , BLAH,BLAH ,BLAH...our developmental program here is disjointed, and lacks a real focus as what we need to do.
The first step for American soccer is to choose a style of play which as result will set into motion the kind of technical/tactical development direction for us to choose and follow.
