What They're Saying: Pope Francis

“When I was your age, I played soccer, but I wasn’t ‘bravo’ at playing soccer, and where I come from, they call you ‘pata dura,’ ‘stiff leg.’ I was a ‘pata dura’ and that’s why I usually was the goalie, so I wouldn’t have to move around.”

I remember decades ago I was in the Vatican to hear the pope address the people. I was struck by the fact the the place was surrounded by walls and guards to keep him safe from harm. Yet this Pope does not want for American do also be safer from people wishing to harm us and from drugs.

I was fortunate enough to have an audience with the Pope. There was a little Italian boy there who I helped with his game. He is standing with his father and asked his father who is that man standing next to Nick?

The last part is a very old joke I heard as a kid ;)
