Hex Files: Ticos call up eight MLS players

Costa Rica called up eight MLS players -- including two each from Minnesota United, New York City FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps -- for its World Cup 2018 qualifiers at home against Panama June 8 and Trinidad & Tobago June 13.

In addition, two former MLS players -- Giancarlo Gonzalez and Michael Umana -- are in the 27-player squad.

Costa Rica Roster:
GOALKEEPERS: Dany Carvajal (Saprissa), Leonel Moreira (Herediano), Keylor Navas (Real Madrid/ESP), Patrick Pemberton (Alajuelense).
DEFENDERS: Johnny Acosta (Herediano), Francisco Calvo (Minnesota United), Cristian Gamboa (Celtic/SCO), Giancarlo Gonzalez (Palermo/ITA), Kenner Gutierrez (Alajuelense), Ronald Matarrita (New York City FC), Bryan Oviedo (Sunderland/ENG), Jose Salvatierra (Alajuelense), Michael Umana (no club), Kendall Waston (Vancouver Whitecaps).

    I guess the mls teams will just let them all go. You think a club like Ajax would let that happen?

    Yes, they would be obligated to. That is how FIFA international dates work.
