Roster: U.S. U-14s boys train in Croatia

Coach Clint Peay  took a 20-player U.S. U-14 boys national team squad to Zagreb, Croatia, for a May 31-June 10 training camp. In its first of four games, the USA beat the U-15 Bosnian national team, 2-1.

Peay’s team, comprised of players born in 2003, will also play friendlies against Dinamo Zagreb and Croatia (twice).

Seventeen members of the roster are returnees from Peay’s 36-player February camp in Carson, California. The three newcomers are: Fernando Alvarez of New York City’s CF Pachuca, Sebastian Burke of North Carolina’s Chelsea FC and the Seattle Sounders’ Sota Kitahara.

Has the coach been looking for talent not widely identified yet? When Alfonse Mondello had the under 14 team that is what he did at least here in NY city.

I have no idea what we are doing with a bunch 13year olds National team. This is just symbolic of those who tend to use team competition in developing the youth. At this stage I would rather read an article saying, that the USSF has picked the following 13year olds to be send for 2weeks to Brazil , all expenses paid, to play street soccer for 8hours a day. I'll guarantee,it will do more for their development than playing some stupid tournament in Croatia.
