NWSL Rewind: Marta goes off in Houston

Marta had her best game in the NWSL since joining the Orlando Pride as she scored two goals and set up the other two in the Pride's 4-2 win at Houston. The performance followed her trip to Europe, where she played for Brazil in its 1-0 win at Iceland and 2-1 win at Spain.

“She’s different class," said Pride coach Tim Sermanni. "She’s been on the road in Spain and Iceland. She’s played two full 90 minutes against Spain and Iceland. She got back here and we haven’t seen her for 10 days and we met up with her yesterday and she goes out to the field and performs magnificently like a teenager again. We only took her off as a precaution so she could have gone on for the full 90 minutes and she did, such a game changer. She was an absolute professional and terrific player.”

Marta's performance overshadowed the 2017 NWSL debut of Carli Lloyd. Houston remained in last place with the defeat.

“Well, I think it’s hard I think for anyone coming in to think from the last three months that miraculously  everything was just going to be different," she said, "and we are going to come and were going to win and everything was going to be peachy. And that’s not reality."
