Confederations Cup: Sanchez sets Chile record in 1-1 tie

Alexis Sanchez became Chile's all-time leading scorer with his 38th international goal, but the South American champion had to settle for a 1-1 tie with an experimental Germany team Thursday at the Confederations Cup.

The result left Chile and Germany with four points each and all four teams in Group B still alive. Cameroon and Australia also tied, 1-1, in the other game.

"I'm very happy to be Chile's top scorer," said Sanchez, who capitalized on a mistake by Arsenal teammate Shkodran Mustafi to score in the sixth minute. "Our dream is to win this tournament and we feel we have a chance. We played well in the first half, but Germany adapted very well to how we were playing."

WEDNESDAY. Making nine lineup changes from the team that tied Portugal, 2-2, in its opening game, Mexico struggled against New Zealand before rallying for a 2-1 win that gave El Tri the Group A lead. Javier Aquino was the inspiration for second-half goals by Raul Jimenez and Oribe Peralta. An early goal by Cristiano Ronaldo held up for a 1-0 Portugal win over host Russia.
