CJ Sapong tied his career high with his ninth goal of the season and Haris Medunjanin assisted on goals by Ilsinho and Roland Alberg as the Philadelphia Union beat the New
England Revolution, 3-0.
After starting out winless in its last eight games, the Union has won six of nine games to move into eighth place, just three points below the red line in the
Eastern Conference. The Revs, losers of their last three games, dropped to 10th place, ahead of only D.C. United.
SATURDAY. The
Chicago Fire moved into first place in the Eastern Conference when it beat Vancouver, 4-0, for its eighth straight MLS win and Toronto FC lost at FC Dallas, 3-1. It's the latest in the season the Fire
has been in first place since 2005.
Nemanja Nikolic scored twice in the first 18 minutes to give him 16 goals in the Fire's first 18 games, putting him on a pace to break the MLS
record for goals in a season. The only down note: German star Bastian Schweinsteiger had to leave game late in first half with a hip injury.
