TV: Confed Cup averages 1.2M viewers on Telemundo

The Germany-Chile final at the Confederations Cup averaged 2.2 million viewers and the Mexico-Portugal game for third place averaged 920,000 to give Telemundo an average of 1.2 million viewers for the tournament.

The average of 1.2 million viewers was down 25 percent from the 2013 average for Univision's Spanish-language coverage of the Confederations Cup, which was played in Brazil and offered better U.S. viewing times than those in Russia.

The 2017 viewership was up 47 percent compared to the coverage in 2009 from South Africa, which had similar kickoff times to those in Russia. That tournament, though, didn't have the participation of Mexico, which drives Spanish-language viewership.

El Tri’s first four games delivered the top audiences of the tournament with the opening weekend match against Portugal averaging 2.4 million viewers. The German-Chile  title match was the most-watched non-Mexico game at the Confederations Cup.
