Tale of the Tape: U.S. group stage, 2015 vs. 2017

The U.S. flight through the group stage of the 2017 Gold Cup -- with trips to Nashville, Tampa and Cleveland -- was bumpy but ended the way it usually does with the hosts on top of their group. But the stats were certainly much more favorable than at the 2015 Gold Cup, where the USA was outshot in all three games, signaling trouble to come in the knockout round.

    "Bumpy" should be expected with a group of young, unproven players. The games were fun, full of energy and showed there are many possibilities out there.

    And more players can be looked at in the future. Some playing now in MLS. Sacha Kljestan and christian Ramirez.
