Roster: U.S. U-17 boys welcomes three newcomers

The U.S. U-17 boys national team, in the midst of preparations for the 2017 U-17 World Cup, in India Oct. 6-28, is in Atlanta, Georgia, July 21-29 with a 29-player squad that includes three newcomers: FC Dallas’ Brayan Padilla, Seattle Sounder Sam Fowler and Real Salt Lake AZ’s Sebastian Soto.

Forward Padilla was this season’s U.S. Soccer Development Academy Central Conference Player of the Year. He scored 31 goals as FC Dallas finished U-15/16 runner-up to Atlanta United, falling 2-1 in the final in which U-17 star Andrew Carleton scored both goals.

Goalkeeper Fowler earned West Conference Best XI honors as Seattle reached the U-15/16 quarterfinals.

Forward Soto was also a West Best XI choice. He scored 35 goals for RSL-AZ, which fell to FC Dallas in the U-15/16 semis.

The U-17s will be based at Atlanta United’s training ground and friendlies against teams including the PDL’s Tormenta FC and the NPSL’s Atlanta Silverbacks.
