Romero received a six-match ban for biting Jozy Altidore
and twisting his nipple in the second half of the game. Ceren, who plays for the San Jose Earthquakes, was suspended for three games for biting Omar Gonzalez. All three incidents were caught on
tape.
The players will serve their suspensions for anti-sporting behavior in El Salvador's next three official matches, which won't come until the 2019 UNCAF championship, which serves as
Central American qualifying for the Gold Cup.
For several years now players of El Salvador, Honduras and at times other Central American sides have shown absolutely terrible behavior during their games. I wonder if 6 and respectively, 3 games suspensions for attempted cannibalism is sufficient deterrent?
The punishment is not severe enough. Fines and suspension from their club games must be added. Until then only some of the animals will be deterred. And that's what they are my friends, animals.
Agree that the punishment is not severe enough. These types of players, with their antics to entice their opponent into retaliation, should no longer be tolerated. We have enough problems with time wasting and simulation. The Canadian who runs CONCACAF needs to stop being soft.
I agree the suspensions are too light. They should be suspended from club play. We've seen what happened to Luis Sanchez in the past. He kept repeating the behavior and his first two times were in league play. Three games is no where near enough. this type of behavior is disgusting and totally unacceptable. How do these guys justify such pathetic behavior?
Suarez.
The mere fact that their punishment will not take effect until the 2019 UNCAF Games is laughably pathetic and the players will continue on their merry way until then, which in the long run, by that time they may even will have been cut or retired from their NT. Their behavior is pathetic and unsporting; I've commented time and again that just about most if not all teams from our region that face the USNT will go to extremely pathetic extremes to get - what I will call - "unsuspecting" US players to react in like fashion, though this is not to mean that we have not retaliated, and some players have been disciplined. That CONCACAF's new head honcho issued the so-called "three game suspension" tells me that he lacks the cojones to make the suspension immediately, whether they're on the ES NT or are playing for their pro teams as Daniel Clifton says above.
Something is almost always better than nothing.
In law enforcement an rule enforcement, something can be worse than nothing. The message here is that even the worst of behaviors will not cost the player significantly. Referees are guilty, also. There are far too many professional fouls which are not cautioned and far to many violent fouls which are not given straight red. There are only thirteen laws to the game, so they should be enforced from game officials on up.
Speaking from experience, quite often law enforcement has to settle for something to avoid a nothing result. It is called plea bargaining and is a practical reality.
Biting should lead to a FIFA ban from the game - forever. It can only be done with malice and intent to do harm. There should be nowhere in sport where this is tolerable. Soccer is and should be a lightly officiated game, however that increases the responsibility of the governing body. CONCACAF'S response is an absolute failure at removing this kind of conduct from the game.
Mark what about hitting and opponents jewels, elbow to the ear, and on and on all lifetime bans? Spitting at an opponent also a life time ban. My Daddio thought that was a killing offense. Let's say your an accountant should you be banned for life for something you did or said in your real life. Remember what Deniro said about Trump should he be banned from acting? Some of his movies he had made lately maybe he should be banned. When I first saw him in mean streets I thought that was a fake street Italian accent maybe he should have been banned from playing street guys. But thankfully he got better at it through the years :)
