MLS Weekend: Roldan on fire for Sounders

All Cristian Roldan has done since returning from the U.S. national team is score two winning goals and three goals in two games.

His goals two minutes apart gave the Seattle Sounders a 3-0 win over San Jose that moved them above the .500 mark for the first time since the 2015 season.

Both Roldan goals followed long throw-ins from Dutch newcomer Kelvin Leerdam, who scored the third goal himself.

The Sounders overran the Quakes in the second half and Roldan missed a hat trick when his shot hit the post. The win gave the Sounders three wins in a row. San Jose, in turn, slumped to its third straight loss.

In Sunday's other game, Portland traveled with only 16 players (two of them emergency callups from its USL team) but managed to beat Vancouver, 2-1, to end its six-game winless streak. Harold Hanson, 18, became the youngest player to ever play for the Timbers when he came on as a late sub.
