USA Men's 40: Dempsey is on fire for streaking Sounders

Clint Dempsey  ignited the Seattle Sounders attack with two goals and one assist to lead the defending MLS champs to a 4-0 win at Minnesota United that extended their unbeaten streak to seven games with three straight shutout wins.

In his last four matches for the Sounders, Dempsey has scored five goals and two assists to up his totals to nine goals and three assists in 18 games.

In Mexico, it was more bad news for the trio Paul Arriola, Joe Corona and Omar Gonzalez, who all started but saw their clubs lose for the third time in three games. Jorge Villafana was on the bench for Santos' 1-1 tie at Morelia.

In Europe, the preseason is winding down for most top-level leagues. Timmy Chandler scored for Eintracht Frankfurt in the 3-0 win over Real Betis.

Of concern, DeAndre Yedlin has picked up a hamstring injury and missed Newcastle United's final preseason match against Hellas Verona. He could be out 2-3 weeks. And of the other outside backs -- five in all -- who started for the USA in June or July, only Justin Morrow played over the weekend.

Reminder: The USA opens camp for the next qualifier, against Costa Rica, in three weeks.
