NWSL: Short turnaround doesn't deter NC stars

The North Carolina Courage is back in first place in the NWSL after it downed the Seattle Reign, 1-0, on Lynn Williams’ goal and the Chicago Red Stars had to play to a 1-1 tie at Orlando.

Williams was one of four players along with the trio of ex-UCLA Bruins, Sam Mewis, Abby Dahlkemper and Taylor Smith, who started the match for the Courage after returning from the Tournament of Nations, where they finished up with the USA only two nights earlier.

"You have to win your home games in this league if you’re going to do damage in the league," said Courage coach Paul Riley, "and we won our home game, so I’m happy with the group. We didn’t give [Seattle] a lot of chances, to be honest with you. All in all, with those players coming back from the West Coast, I think it was a really good performance."
