Bayern Munich’s Karl-Heinz Rummenigge will not run for re-election as the chairman of the European Club Association, one of the most powerful positions in international soccer.

“Ihave always believed this office should only be held for a limited amount of time,” the 61-year-old Rummenigge said. “My withdrawal from office expresses my sincerity concerning this issue.”

Among the current board members who could run for election is Arsenal’s Ivan Gazidis, the former MLS deputy commissioner.
