Report: Toronto FC 's TV viewership up 59 percent

Toronto FC's average audience for its MLS games on TSN and CTV is 93,000 viewers, up 59 percent from 2016. By comparison, the National Post reported that the audience for the baseball Blue Jays is down 21 percent but still far greater than the audience for TFC: 706,300 per game on Sportsnet.

TFC, which leads the race for the MLS Supporters' Shield, appeared on CTV, Canada’s most-watched television network, three times in 2017, the first time the network has aired MLS games.

The Blue Jays are last in the American League's Eastern Division.

Wow. Good news but still a long way to go. TV ratings (and the revenues that follow) are essential for MLS to have the money needed to continue its growth. I think it'll happen - in the early days of MLS the league paid networks to televise games and now the league's national TV deal is worth $90m a year. But this shows that it doesn't happen overnight.

Yeah, those numbers are rather sobering. Definitely moving in the right direction, and I think this is only going to snowball and get going faster and faster each year as big things keep happening with the growth of the league.
