Gooch scores first Sunderland goal in Carabao Cup win

Lynden Gooch's goal 10 minutes from time gave Sunderland a 2-1 win at Carlisle United to move the Black Cats into the third round of the Carabao Cup, the English League Cup.

Gooch also assisted on Donald Love's goal in his first appearance of the 2017-18 season for Sunderland in his first start of the season.

The 21-year-old Californian had broken into the Sunderland first team last season, making 11 EPL appearances. He has come on as a sub twice at the start of the Sunderland campaign in the League Championship.

The winger parlayed his success into a call-up to the U.S. national team. His last appearance was as a sub in the 4-0 loss to Costa Rica, Jurgen Klinsmann's last game in charge.
