Sky Blue's Kerr ties NWSL season scoring record

Sam Kerr tied the NWSL scoring record set by former Seattle Reign midfielder Kim Little in 2014 when she scored her 16th goal of the season in Sky Blue FC's 1-0 win over the Boston Breakers. Sky Blue FC has four more games to play.

Kerr's goal came on a breakaway in the 5th minute when  midfielder Nikki Stanton sent her a long ball over the top and Breakers goalkeeper Abby Smith came well out of the penalty box to try to break up the attack but failed. Kerr had an easy shot into the open net for the record-tying goal.

The Australian had scored four second-half goals in her previous game, a 5-4 win over Seattle, a week earlier.

The win moved Sky Blue FC into 5th place, ahead of Seattle and three points behind the Chicago Red Stars and Orlando Pride, which both won, for the fourth and final playoff spot The Breakers were again eliminated from playoff contention.
