An odd deal, you might say.
Brian, Lyon target. Mewis is a good player but when healthy Brian is one of the best American midfielders, good enough to start on the Women's World Cup championship team in her rookie season with the Dash.
Brian played only 33 games in three seasons for the Dash and has yet to score a goal in the NWSL. She had been rumored to be European champion Lyon's latest American target.
Mewis after one game. Mewis led her hometown Boston Breakers with six goals in 2015 but she only scored once in 2016 and was shipped to Washington in the massive deal that also landed the Spirit the No. 1 spot in the allocation rankings that it used to sign Mallory Pugh.
Mewis, whose 15 caps were all earned under Tom Sermanni, made the most of her one game with the Red Stars, scoring the first goal in the 2-1 win over her old team, the the last-place Spirit.
Dash interim coach Omar Morales told Corey Roepken of the Houston Chronicle that the trade was "good option for both the Houston Dash and for Morgan as a player" and the Dash was "getting a player who is going to come in with a chip on her shoulder, ready to come in and play and excited about another opportunity."
