By the Numbers: Historic loss shakes up Hex

The USA's 2-0 loss to Costa Rica gave the Ticos a series sweep in the Hexagonal, the first time a team has ever done that to the USA.

Costa Rica is the first team to ever sweep its two-game series with the USA in the Hexagonal.

The USA hasn't lost two games at home in the same World Cup qualifying cycle since 1957 when it lost to Canada, 3-2, in St. Louis and Mexico, 7-2, in Los Angeles en route to losing all four games in World Cup 1958 qualifying.

The U.S. loss was its third in seven games in the Hexagonal. Only in 2002 did the USA lose as many as three games in the 10-game tournament.

The USA has eight points after seven games, its fewest in six Hexagonals.
