USWNT: Heath and Brian back after long layoffs

The 22 players called in for the U.S. women's national team matches against New Zealand Sept. 15 and 19 include Tobin Heath and Morgan Brian, starting midfielders on the 2015 Women's World Cup who haven't play for the national team since March because of injuries.

Heath, the most-capped player on the roster with 131 appearances, has yet to play for the Portland Thorns and may simply be in camp to work with the team. Brian, rumored to head to French club Lyon in the winter, was recently traded from the Houston Dash to the Chicago Red Stars.

USA vs. New Zealand:
Sept. 15: at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. (10 pm ET, ESPN2)
Sept. 19: at Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati (7:30 ET, FS1).

Also back is another midfielder, Boston Breakers midfielder Rose Lavelle, who missed the Tournament Nations in July with a hamstring injury, and goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris, who has recovered from a quad injury.

The only uncapped player on the team is 18-year-old defender Tierna Davidson, a sophomore at Stanford University. The Chicago Red Stars' Sofia Huerta will train but is ineligible to play as she waits for FIFA to approve her request for change of association. Huerta played for Mexico at the 2012 U-20 Women's World Cup and has five caps for the senior team in unofficial competitions.

Jill Ellis on fall campaign: "We are looking forward to getting to Denver and having a couple of days together prepping for our first New Zealand match. With only six matches left in 2017, we want to take advantage of the time we have together and finish the year with solid performances. New Zealand, South Korea, and Canada all present different challenges, and these games will round out one of the most competitive schedules the WNT program has played in a calendar year."
