OFF THE POST: TV director pegged a hooligan

Englishman Eden Diebel, 44, who has directed TV commercials for Coca-Cola, Mercedes and Smirnoff and earlier this year won an award at the Cannes Film Festival, has been found guilty of soccer hooliganism.

Diebel, recently named one of the ''Top 10 New Directors'' by Campaign magazine, was among five West Ham fans caught by surveillance cameras throwing coins at Millwall fans and policemen last season during the London derby in which rioting broke out.

He has been banned from attending games for five years, fined $4,350 and sentenced to 150 hours of community service.

''You get a surprising mix of people involved in this sort of thing,'' Police Constable Andrew Wadeson told the South London Press.
