What They're Saying: Jake Edwards

“We have eradicated all of our D2 waivers [for minimum capacity standard of 5,000 seats] and we’ve worked hard on all the pro league standards. We’ve got only four clubs who are requesting pro league waivers [for field size or field turf], and that is a great accomplishment. We used to be a second division [before 2011] and then we were moved to the third, where we regrouped our league and rebuilt our league to get to where we are now. We’re very proud of what we’ve been able to achieve.”

-- USL president Jake Edwards in response to the NASL's claim in its lawsuit against U.S. Soccer that the federation selectively granted and denied waivers to elevate the USL into a D2 monopoly and the USL was asking for “approximately 20” waivers in 2018. (SI.com)
