U.S. Open Cup: Bhoys eliminate former champions, short-handed Kendall Wanderers prevail, Nacional walks

The Yonkers-based Lansdowne Bhoys beat the Cosmopolitan League rival New York Pancyprian Freedoms in a shootout to advance to the third round of the Open Division in 2018 U.S. Open Cup qualifying.

Shootout heroes. Gambian goalkeeper Abdoukarim Dansomakes stopped three penalty kicks to stymie the Pancyprian Freedoms, three-time national champions in the Open Cup.

Another goalkeeper who came up big was Evan Weagle, who made two saves in the Kendall Wanderers' shootout win over the Bay State Soccer League rival GPS Omens, who had advanced to the third round of the Open Cup proper in 2017. The Wanderers had finished the game with eight players following red cards to three players.

Wave of forfeits. After five forfeits in the first round, there were three more in the second round: L.A. Wolves FC over Vanquish FC and La Maquina over the Las Vegas Mobsters in two matches slated to involve UPSL teams and Rochester River Dogz over Ann Arbor FC.

In addition, the Red Force FC-Miami Nacional SC match in Florida was abandoned when the Nacional coach pulled his players off the field after disagreeing with a call.

"In addition, the Red Force FC-Miami Nacional SC match in Florida was abandoned when the Nacional coach pulled his players off the field after disagreeing with a call." What kind of pathetic coach is this? I keep reading on this site about how great our US coaches are, and here is a Rec soccer coach in the Open Cup?
