Fire's Mihailovic faces surgery for ruptured ACL

Djordje Mihailovic, the top Homegrown Player signed straight out of an MLS academy program in 2017, suffered an ACL rupture in his right knee in the Chicago Fire's 4-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls.

The 18-year-old Mihailovic is scheduled to have ACL reconstruction surgery in the coming weeks. The injury is typically followed by a long injury layoff.
Mihailovic, who was injured when he went to the ground challenging the Red Bulls' Tyler Adams, had one goal and two assists in 17 games this season.

Chicago Fire coach Veljko Paunovic after Wednesday's game:"We'll see after tomorrow with his MRI what's going on. But it's hard to see a young player like him who's doing so well and his progress was amazing and we are proud of him. It was encouraging to see a young man who was handling the situation with maturity and who was strong after the game and he was ready to move on and start his recovery as soon as possible. It was amazing to see that attitude from him."
