Former England star Alan Shearer  investigates the possibility that dementia could be a result of brain damage caused by heading the ball in this BBC documentary. “I scored 260 Premier League goals,” he says. “A fifth of them with my head, which must put me at risk if there is science behind the headlines about dementia and football. For every goal I scored with a header I must have practiced it a thousand times in training."

“As someone who played the game for 20 years, and sometimes headed the ball up to 100 times a day in training, I knew that if there was a danger, then I was one of those who could be at risk,” says Shearer.
